Zimbabwe’s interim captain Sikandar Raza has decided to bat first in the opening match of the tri-series against Bangladesh, taking place in Abu Dhabi. Unfortunately for Bangladesh, their captain Litton Das has been sidelined due to a right hip joint injury, leaving Towhid Hridoy to step in as captain.
Further complicating matters for Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz is unavailable, having been confined to bed with a fever for the past few days. As a result, the team’s lower order appears stretched, with Rishad Hossain moving up to the number 8 slot. There is, however, a boost to the side as Hasan Mahmud returns to the One Day International (ODI) roster after a year-long absence. Despite a couple of lacklustre performances in last month’s Asian Games, Mustafizur Rahman retains his place in the team.
Zimbabwe, opting for a robust pace attack, have introduced Tafadzwa Tsiga to the international stage as their wicketkeeper. Reflecting on the team’s preparation, Raza mentioned, “We believe our strategy to go with three pace bowlers is optimal for the pitch conditions here.”
The squads line up as follows:
– Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy (captain), Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wicketkeeper), Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman.
– Zimbabwe: Brian Bennett, Ben Curran, Brendan Taylor, Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza (captain), Wessley Madhevere, Tafadzwa Tsiga (wicketkeeper), Brad Evans, Wellington Masakadza, Newman Nyamhuri, Blessing Muzarabani.
This match promises to be an intriguing encounter as Bangladesh navigates through these initial challenges, while Zimbabwe looks to capitalise on their opponent’s setbacks. Cricket enthusiasts can expect an engaging contest as both teams vie for early dominance in the series.
