New Zealand is set to test its fast-bowling reserves in the ongoing T20I series against India, with strategic rotations in line with “planned workload management,” according to New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
Lockie Ferguson will miss the third T20I in Wellington scheduled for Tuesday but will rejoin the squad in Auckland for the fourth match on Friday and the fifth in Hamilton next Sunday. Meanwhile, Matt Henry will remain behind in Christchurch, sitting out the last three T20Is. Instead, he’ll travel to Auckland to prepare for the opening One Day International (ODI) against India on 4th November.
Kyle Jamieson, absent from the first two T20Is, will journey to Wellington for the third game and stay on for Canterbury’s Ford Trophy second-round fixture against Wellington on 31st October. He will then head to Auckland for the upcoming ODIs.
Blair Tickner enters the squad in Wellington, ready for the final three T20Is, while Josh Clarkson joins in Auckland, slated for the last two matches. Additionally, Matt Fisher will provide cover in Wellington for the third T20I before returning to the New Zealand A squad for their subsequent four-day game against India A.
“We’re very fortunate with the depth in the squad to be able to call upon different players to help manage our pacers’ workloads, and to try and ensure they are best placed to perform for the team for all the cricket coming up,” shared New Zealand head coach Rob Walter.
Currently, India leads the five-match series 2-0, clinching victories in Christchurch with two four-wicket triumphs. The teams will engage in five ODIs following the T20Is, culminating in two Test matches, to wrap up the multi-format series early December.
