Shree Charani Breaks Record as Top T20I Bowler

Shree Charani has solidified her top position as the No. 1 bowler in women’s T20 Internationals in the latest ICC rankings. The left-arm spinner from India also reached an unprecedented career-high of 817 rating points, a new record for bowlers, following a successful stint at both the T20 Asia Cup and the Asian Games.

In the past month, Charani has been in remarkable form, securing titles in both tournaments with standout performances. She took 20 wickets across eight innings, maintaining an impressive average of 4.85 and an economy rate of just 3.3. This remarkable run included two instances of taking four wickets in a match, with her career-best being 4 for 10 versus Japan in the Asian Games quarter-final.

This new rating surpasses the previous record of 806 points set by Australia’s Megan Schutt back in November 2018.

In other rankings news, India’s allrounder Deepti Sharma remains secure in second place in the women’s T20I bowling rankings, closely followed by England’s Sophie Ecclestone. Smriti Mandhana has also climbed back into the top five in the T20I batting rankings, thanks in part to her vital 79-run contribution in the Asian Games final against Sri Lanka.

Turning to the ODI rankings, Hayley Matthews’ commanding innings of 182 in the series opener against Zimbabwe has advanced her three places to fourth in the one-day batting rankings. Matthews continues to dominate, remaining the leading allrounder in the T20I rankings.

As for Zimbabwe, Nyasha Gwanzura’s personal best of four wickets helped secure victory in the second ODI against the West Indies. Her performance saw her skyrocket 52 places to No. 156 in the ODI bowling rankings. Furthermore, Modester Mupachikwa of Zimbabwe has moved up 16 places to achieve her career-best position of No. 40 in the batting rankings.
