### Title: India Fields Strong Line-up as Dhir and Pooran Debut in Lucknow

In the opening T20I of the five-match series held in Lucknow, India decided to field first after winning the toss, leaving West Indies to bat. The Indian team, led by Shreyas Iyer, who boasts an impressive record of winning 14 tosses out of his 17 matches as captain, opted to bolster their line-up with an additional middle-order batsman, Naman Dhir. Reflecting on the decision, Iyer commented, “The conditions looked suitable for bowling first, and we have a strong batting order to chase any target.”

Dhir, who made a promising impression during his recent ODI debut, was presented with his T20I cap by his Punjab teammate, Arshdeep Singh. India’s bowling attack featured Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav, with Axar Patel and debutant Dhir providing all-round options alongside Shivam Dube.

On the other side, West Indies injected some T20 expertise into their squad, with opening batsman Kamil Pooran making his international debut after a standout season in the Caribbean Premier League. West Indies favoured an extra seamer, including Shamar Joseph and Shamar Springer, supported by Matthew Forde and Romario Shepherd. Fingerspinners Akeal Hosein and Roston Chase rounded out their bowling line-up.

Both teams have had recent successes and challenges. India experimented with a trio of openers during the Asian Games under interim coach VVS Laxman, which Iyer explained was part of building versatility in the team. Meanwhile, West Indies, having lost their preceding ODI series 2-1 to India, look to recalibrate and assert themselves in the T20 format.

The squads for the match were as follows:

India: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer (capt), Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Naman Dhir, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Arshdeep Singh.

West Indies: Shai Hope (capt & wk), Kamil Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shamar Springer, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph.

As both teams took to the field, the anticipation was palpable. This series offers a platform for players like Dhir and Pooran to establish themselves on the international stage, each being watched closely for their contributions to their respective sides.
