Yuvraj Singh Appointed as Assistant and Batting Coach for Delhi Capitals

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed as the assistant and batting coach for the Delhi Capitals, in preparation for the IPL 2027 season. This confirmation aligns with prior reports from June, which indicated Yuvraj would be joining forces with Sourav Ganguly, who has now taken up the role of head coach at the franchise.

The Capitals recently announced the arrival of Sourav Ganguly as head coach, succeeding Hemang Badani. This change corresponds with the agreement formed between the team’s co-owners, GMR Sports India Pvt Ltd and Jindal South West (JSW) Sports, post-IPL 2024, which states that each entity will alternate control of franchise operations every two years.

This appointment marks Yuvraj’s first official foray into coaching. In his statement, Yuvraj expressed enthusiasm about this new chapter: “I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada [Sourav Ganguly], this time as coaches. Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success.”

Parth Jindal, co-owner and chairman of Delhi Capitals, extended a warm welcome to Yuvraj, stating, “Yuvi is one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners and someone who has played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today. His experience, winning mindset, and ability to connect with players will be invaluable to our squad.”

In recent years, Yuvraj has been instrumental in guiding several Indian players, including Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Prabhsimran Singh, significantly impacting their success as batsmen.

Back in 2015, Yuvraj played 14 matches for the Capitals, amassing 248 runs and taking one wicket after being purchased for INR 16 crore, making him the most expensive player in the IPL at that time. Over his IPL career, he participated in 132 matches, scoring a total of 2750 runs and taking 36 wickets before retiring from all forms of cricket in 2019.
