Migael Pretorius is set to return to Somerset for the 2027 season, marking his fourth consecutive summer with the team. The South African all-rounder will compete in all formats throughout the season, showcasing his versatile skills on the field.
Since his initial arrival in 2024, Pretorius has become a familiar presence at Taunton. Last season, he featured in 13 of the 14 County Championship matches. During this time, he impressively took 37 wickets at an average of 28.83 and achieved two half-centuries, contributing significantly to Somerset’s second-place finish in Division One. To date, Pretorius has collected 106 wickets and scored seven fifties across all formats for Somerset. Notably, he played a crucial role in the team’s T20 Blast triumph in 2025, their second in three years.
Reflecting on his journey, Pretorius expressed, “I love playing for Somerset. I couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome over the last few years, and it’s great to be a part of this special group. Somerset has become a second home for my family, and I’m looking forward to repaying the faith that the club and the supporters have shown in me. It was incredible to win a trophy in 2025, and hopefully, we can do that again in 2027.”
Andy Hurry, Somerset’s director of cricket, praised Pretorius’s contribution: “Over the last few years, Migael has become a key component of this squad both on and off the field. He instantly bought into the club culture and has demonstrated on a number of occasions across the formats that he can positively impact matches for us with the ball and the bat. His quality and experience will be valuable tools for us in 2027, and he will once again add depth and quality to our squads.”
As anticipation builds for the upcoming season, Somerset fans can look forward to another summer of Pretorius’s impactful performances.
