Shamar Springer has been named in the West Indies squad for their upcoming Test series in Bangladesh, stepping in for Keemo Paul, who has had to withdraw due to personal and family commitments, according to a statement from Cricket West Indies (CWI).
At 28, Springer’s Test debut could be imminent, having already featured in three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 12 T20 Internationals. His first-class career includes 23 matches, where he’s amassed 1,043 runs with a batting average of 32.59, alongside taking 58 wickets at an average of 27.87. Recent form saw him enjoying a successful stint with the bat for Barbados in the 2026 West Indies Championship, scoring 251 runs at 50.20 but struggling in the bowling department with seven wickets at 42.00.
Potential alternatives such as Ojay Shields and Nial Smith were considered for the squad but were unfortunately sidelined due to injuries, as confirmed by CWI.
The team will also be missing white-ball skipper Shai Hope, who is rested, and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who is being managed for workload concerns. Paul had initially occupied Joseph’s place in the lineup.
Both Springer and Paul were part of the squad in the recent white-ball tour of India, which wrapped up last Saturday in Bengaluru following a rain-affected final T20 match. The West Indies team ended the three-match ODI series with a 2-1 loss while the T20 series concluded evenly at 2-2.
The forthcoming tour in Bangladesh begins with a three-day warm-up match in Dhaka from 22nd to 24th October. The first Test is scheduled to take place in Mirpur from 28th October to 1st November, followed by the second Test in Sylhet from 5th to 9th November.
