Rizwan Seeks Clarity from NCCIA Over Shifting Investigation Reasons

Mohammad Rizwan has called upon the NCCIA to offer a clearer explanation regarding their ongoing investigation, as their rationale has appeared inconsistent. Rizwan has confirmed he will attend a meeting with the agency on 2nd October, despite concerns that the basis for the probe seems to have shifted substantially. Initially, the notice suggested potential involvement in betting and gambling activities within Pakistan cricket, yet a recent letter cites a breach of the “relevant provisions of PECA 2016” without further details. PECA refers to the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act, but the specific clause Rizwan is alleged to have violated remains unspecified.

Rizwan’s legal team expressed concern that an association with gambling accusations has unjustly damaged his reputation, stressing that Rizwan was not informed of any charges. The letter urgently requests clarity on whether the focus of the investigation has changed and questions if the NCCIA has liaised with the PCB or ICC’s anti-corruption units about their queries.

Additionally, Rizwan has reiterated his request for the return of his mobile phone, which was seized in London after Pakistan’s loss in the second Test at Lord’s. He noted a lack of proper protocol in its confiscation, citing the absence of a seizure inventory or custody record.

This inquiry, involving Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq, has become increasingly complex since it was initiated post Pakistan’s Test defeat to England. While Imam complied by completing the agency’s questionnaire, Rizwan has opted for legal advice as the investigation unfolds.

Mohammad Rizwan has made it clear he seeks transparent communication from the NCCIA, amid these evolving circumstances.
