Oman Confirm Spot in 2027 Men’s World Cup Qualifiers Despite UAE Defeat

Oman have confirmed their position in the 2027 Men’s World Cup Qualifiers, managing this despite a 42-run loss to the UAE in their final World Cup League 2 game in Dubai. The defeat had little consequence on their overall standing since they matched Namibia with 33 points but advanced due to a superior net run rate. “We knew what was at stake,” said Oman captain Rahul Chopra, who scored 47 in their chase. His efforts were supported by Adeeb Usmani (47) and Basil Hameed (43), guiding UAE to 226 for 8 as Oman’s Shakeel Ahmed snared 3 for 42. Oman’s chase fell short at 184 for 9, with Mujibur Ali top-scoring with 65.

Joining USA, Scotland, and Netherlands, Oman will progress straight to the 10-team global qualifier. Meanwhile, Namibia’s path to the World Cup continues through the World Cup Qualifier Playoff alongside Canada, Nepal, and the UAE. They will be joined by Jersey and Kuwait, from the World Cup Challenge League A, as well as Italy and Uganda, from League B.

“This is the last opportunity for many of these sides to make it to the main event,” said a cricket analyst, referencing the playoff as a gateway that offers four World Cup berths. Success in the Global Qualifier not only leads to participation but also results in a direct ticket to the group stages, with those placing second to fourth moving to the Super Series. The forthcoming World Cup, from October 2 to November 21, will feature 14 teams playing 57 matches across 12 venues.

“It’s crucial to seize these moments,” Namibia captain commented on their team’s next steps toward World Cup hopefuls.
