McGrath Unsure of Batting Role Ahead of ODI Series

Australian allrounder Tahlia McGrath has admitted to being uncertain about her position in the batting lineup as she steps in to lead the team against Bangladesh, due to Sophie Molineux’s injury. The three-match ODI series is set to commence in Brisbane this Friday. McGrath, who recently impressed by scoring 154 runs off 137 balls for South Australia, spoke candidly about her form.

“It was a relief to score runs because I haven’t really contributed to teams I’ve been playing with for a while,” McGrath told reporters at Allan Border Field. “Nice to know I can still play cricket, and hopefully a really good confidence boost for me.”

The cricketer attributed her recent success to minor adjustments in her technique and mental approach. “It’s sometimes really hard to find your groove and find that confidence,” she explained. “For me, it was stripping it right back to basics, what am I good at, homing in on that and just getting a bit of confidence.”

Despite her recent century, McGrath remains realistic about her position in a squad boasting talents such as Georgia Voll, Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, and Ash Gardner. “That top order’s pretty set,” she admitted. “As a guess, I’d probably slot in around seven or eight, but I’ve got absolutely no idea what the batting order is going to look like.”

Meanwhile, under the guidance of new coach David Hemp, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana emphasised her team’s determination. She acknowledged Australia’s formidable reputation, saying, “They [Australia] are the best side, we all know that. We have to be very positive… and we will definitely play our A-game against them.”

Notably, neither Australia nor Bangladesh has contested an ODI series since April, with Australia having won all five previous ODI encounters between the two teams. As both sides prepare for the showdown, McGrath and Sultana’s comments set the stage for an engaging series for cricket fans.
