Litton Das Sidelined by Hip Injury for UAE Tri-Series

Litton Das, captain of Bangladesh’s white-ball cricket team, has been sidelined from the ongoing triangular ODI series in the UAE due to a hip injury. Vice-captain Towhid Hridoy stepped in as captain for the tournament’s opening match against Zimbabwe.

Team physio Bayezid Islam Khan explained the situation, saying, “Litton Das came to us with a right hip joint complaint.” An MRI revealed an issue, and despite attempting a fitness test on the day of the match, Das couldn’t meet the necessary benchmarks. This marks his second absence in recent months, after missing the Zimbabwe tour in July. Litton’s recent highlight was achieving Player of the Match in a Test against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, where he scored 53 and 102, alongside eight catches.

In addition to Litton’s absence, Mehidy Hasan Miraz missed the series opener due to a fever he has had for three days, according to Bayezid. This is the first time since September 2023 that Bangladesh has played an ODI without both Litton and Mehidy.

The team also continues to manage without fast bowler Nahid Rana, out since mid-July due to a side strain. Recent reports noted his visit to Perth for a medical check-up, with a return to competitive cricket anticipated later this month.

Alongside Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, Afghanistan completes the tri-series line-up.
