Jaker Ali Steps in as Concussion Substitute for Injured Mominul Haque

Mominul Haque, Bangladesh’s third batter in the lineup, has been substituted by Jaker Ali following a head injury sustained during the ongoing first Test against the West Indies in Dhaka.

The incident occurred soon after lunch on the third day, in the 78th over of the West Indies’ initial innings. Mominul was fielding in the short-leg position when he attempted a catch off Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s delivery. Joshua Bishop, the opposing batter, played a robust defensive shot, causing the ball to travel towards Mominul. Although he managed to get his hands on it, Mominul lost control and fell to the ground whilst wearing his helmet. He was promptly escorted from the field.

Bangladesh’s team physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan, provided an update, stating, “Mominul has suffered a head injury and displayed signs of concussion. As a result, Jaker Ali Anik has been brought in as the concussion substitute for the match’s remainder.”

Jaker was spotted ready to bat following the loss of Bangladesh’s third wicket in their second innings. He was called to action soon after, as captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed by Roston Chase, the West Indies skipper, who claimed his third wicket. Jaker had only begun to settle at the crease when rain interrupted play, leading to an early tea with Bangladesh at 34 for 4, holding a slender lead of 61 runs.

For Jaker, this appearance marks a return to Test cricket, with his previous involvement dating back to June 2025 against Sri Lanka. He faces a challenging task as Bangladesh aims to build a more substantial lead.
