Adelaide Strikers have secured the services of fast bowler Haris Rauf for the forthcoming Big Bash League season. This signing sees him join the likes of Ben Stokes and Mark Chapman as the team’s international players available for the entire competition.
Strikers coach Tim Paine expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Haris is a proven match-winner who has performed at the highest level in international cricket and franchise competitions around the world. Strikers fans are going to love watching him steam in at Adelaide Oval. He’s one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket and has the ability to change a game in an instant.”
The choice to have international players available throughout the tournament was a priority for the Strikers, something Paine highlighted: “We’re thrilled to welcome Haris to Adelaide for the entire tournament. He’s an exciting player, a fierce competitor and someone who will bring plenty of energy to our group.”
Rauf, previously associated with Melbourne Stars since 2019-20, was the leading wicket-taker in last season’s BBL, securing 20 wickets in 11 matches. Reflecting on his move, Rauf said, “I can’t wait to get started with the Adelaide Strikers. Adelaide Oval is one of the great cricket venues in the world and I’ve always enjoyed playing there. The Strikers have a strong squad with world-class players like Ben Stokes, Matt Short and Mark Chapman, so I’m really excited about the opportunity to play alongside them.”
He added, “We’ve got a talented group and I’m looking forward to contributing wherever I can to help the team push deep into the finals and compete for a championship.”
Rauf’s fondness for Adelaide Oval is evident. In a memorable ODI performance there, he took five wickets for 29 runs against Australia in November 2024, assisting Pakistan in a convincing nine-wicket victory. Additionally, during the 2022 T20 World Cup at the same venue, he claimed 1 for 21 against Bangladesh.
The Strikers face the challenge of improving upon their past performance, having only tasted victory in the BBL in the 2017-18 season and missing the playoffs last season. The new BBL season kicks off in December, and the Strikers’ first match is set against Sydney Thunder in Canberra on December 16.
