Essex Part Ways with Robin Das Amidst Serious Legal Charges

Robin Das, a batter for Essex, is no longer with the club following his appearance in court on Friday to address allegations of raping a woman on two occasions.

Das, 24, was formally charged with two counts of rape back in July. The charges stem from an alleged incident in March 2024, reported from Brixton, which led to his arrest by the Metropolitan Police in August 2025. According to a BBC report, Das appeared before Inner London Crown Court recently and has been released on conditional bail, with a trial scheduled for January 2028.

During the current season, Das made a brief appearance for the Essex first team, scoring 29 runs in a match against Middlesex on 21 July as part of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup series. The club has since clarified that he is no longer under contract.

In a statement issued on Friday, Essex commented: “Essex County Cricket Club is aware of today’s court proceedings involving Robin Das. The club recognises the seriousness of the matter and will not comment further on the circumstances of the case.”

They further stated that Das’s contract concluded before the 2026 season’s end, following his suspension and subsequent inability to meet playing commitments. This is reported as being independent of the ongoing legal proceedings.

The club also assured that it has extensive safeguarding and disciplinary measures, which are regularly reviewed to ensure suitability: “We will continue to work closely with the ECB, PCA and The Cricket Regulator as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards across the club.”

In light of these developments, Essex remains committed to upholding its professional standards and maintaining transparency in their processes.
