Ed Joyce has been appointed as Ireland’s high performance batting coach, where he will lend his expertise to both the senior men’s team and their male talent pathway. His appointment takes effect immediately.
Joyce, a distinguished former international player for both Ireland and England, retired from professional cricket in 2018. He subsequently transitioned to coaching, leading the Ireland women’s team for nearly six years before stepping down in April 2025. In his post-playing career, Joyce has also contributed his batting knowledge to Gloucestershire in county cricket and the Dublin Guardians in the ETPL, alongside work as a broadcaster.
“Once I retired from playing, staying involved in Irish cricket was a high priority for me,” Joyce stated. “When I look at the Ireland men’s side over recent years, it’s obvious to see the amount of hard work that has gone on behind the scenes in preparing our players to be competitive on the international stage. I look forward to getting involved in this work and perhaps adding some insights and knowledge to push the batting group forward. The talent is there, the goal is now consistency.”
In his new role, Joyce will collaborate with Gary Wilson, the head coach of the men’s team, and Graeme West, the high performance director. The men’s team recently faced Afghanistan in a challenging five-match ODI series at home, succumbing 4-0. Their focus is now set on the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup Qualifier, scheduled from 22 February to 23 March.
