Donald Joins Joburg Super Kings as Bowling Coach

Joburg Super Kings have welcomed former South African pace bowler Allan Donald as their new bowling coach for the SA20 2027 season. Donald will collaborate with Albie Morkel, who has now stepped up to the head coach role following the franchise’s decision to part ways with Stephen Fleming.

Stepping into this position, Donald replaces Eric Simons, who is set to join Fleming’s coaching team in England. Donald’s rich coaching history spans various international teams including South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, and he has also contributed his expertise to several domestic sides such as Warwickshire, Kent, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In a move that reunites old colleagues, Pierre de Bruyn, the former wicketkeeper-batter, will become the new fielding coach for JSK. Morkel and de Bruyn’s previous collaborations with the Titans and the Namibian national team highlight their strong working relationship. Additionally, Evan Speechly has been appointed as the team’s physiotherapist, taking over from Tommy Simsek.

Recent activity at the SA20 auction saw JSK successfully re-sign former captain Faf du Plessis for R 2.7 million, and they have invested R 2.9 million in up-and-coming allrounder Jason Rowles.

The upcoming SA20’s fifth season is slated to kick off on January 17, 2027, in Gqeberha and conclude with the final on February 21 in Cape Town. The opening match at St George’s Park promises to be a thrilling rematch of last season’s final between the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals.
