Delhi Women Set Record with Highest Domestic T20 Total

In an outstanding display in Pune, the Delhi women’s team have set a new benchmark in domestic T20 cricket by amassing a commanding total of 262 for 6 against Hyderabad in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. This impressive feat surpasses the previous record held by Goa, who scored 257 for 2 against Arunachal Pradesh during the 2019-20 season. Among women’s T20 matches globally, Delhi’s innings ranks as the 11th highest, with the best scores belonging to international matches.

The star of Delhi’s innings was undoubtedly their opening batter, Tanisha Singh. Delivering an extraordinary performance, Tanisha hammered 119 runs off merely 47 balls. Her blistering century, achieved in just 38 balls, ties for the third-fastest in women’s T20 history. Only Kiran Navgire, who took 34 balls, and Sophie Devine, with 36, have been quicker. Tanisha equalled Deandra Dottin’s record, set against South Africa in 2010. Her innings, featuring 25 boundaries and a solitary six, was crucial in overcoming the early dismissal of her opening partner, Vanshika Lila.

Teaming up with India international Priya Punia, who contributed a swift 59 from 28 balls, Tanisha helped fashion a formidable 160-run partnership off only 66 deliveries, driving the total beyond 175. Following Punia, Shweta Sehrawat added a rapid 26 in just eight balls, including three sixes, bringing Delhi’s score above 200.

Tanisha eventually fell to G Trisha’s delivery, but further contributions from Nazma Khan and Deeksha Sharma, along with a solid 15 from skipper Soni Yadav, ensured a record-setting finish. For Hyderabad, Vanka Pooja stood out with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 32 runs from her allotted four overs, while other bowlers leaked over 11 runs per over.

Hyderabad’s reply was spirited, led by opener Trisha’s valiant 80 off 52 balls. Unfortunately, her efforts couldn’t keep pace with Delhi’s relentlessness. Apart from her and captain Pranavi Chandra, who scored 21, the batting line-up struggled, culminating in a final tally of 154 for 8, handing Delhi a commanding 108-run victory.

The triumph marks a significant moment for Delhi, with contributions across the board highlighting the squad’s depth and capability. “It was a team effort that made this possible,” remarked Priya Punia post-match, echoing the collective sentiment of the side.
