Darcie Brown Sidelined from WBBL due to Back Injury

Australia and Adelaide Strikers fast bowler, Darcie Brown, will miss the entirety of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) due to a disc injury in her back. This setback comes after her recent tour with Australia A in India where she participated in two T20 matches and a one-day game, taking 3 for 39 in Mohali.

Brown, who is 23, returned home with the injury and has been unable to return to training, removing her from consideration for Australia’s upcoming matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Despite hoping for a mid-tournament comeback, Cricket Australia confirmed on Monday she is unable to participate in this season’s WBBL. “Brown was assessed following her return home from India last month, and following a period of de-loading, her injury has not yet recovered to a point where she is ready to resume training,” Cricket Australia declared in their statement. “As a result, she will be unable to return to full fitness in time for the upcoming WBBL season.”

National selector Shawn Flegler mentioned last month that if Brown was indeed kept out of the WBBL, she might still be considered for the Champions Trophy in the upcoming year. Previously, Brown was left out of the T20 World Cup mid-year, with the team hierarchy opting for other options due to specific tactical reasons concerning the English conditions.

The injury represents a continued challenge for Brown, who has shown promise on the field but now faces the task of recovery and rehabilitation. Supporters will look forward to seeing her back on the pitch once she makes a full recovery.
