Australia A Opt to Bat First in Series Opener Against India A

Australia A, led by captain Will Sutherland, won the toss in the opening one-day match against India A in Puducherry and chose to bat first. Sutherland remarked that the pitch at the CAP Siechem Ground appeared “a really good wicket” for batting.

India A’s captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, shared that he would have also preferred to bat first, noting the pitch’s “drier side” condition and minimal expected impact of dew during the evening session when his team will be bowling. Gaikwad also confidently described his side as “one of the strongest India A sides in recent years,” despite the absence of the experienced Hardik Pandya, sidelined due to a shin injury and advised to rest for 15 days.

Allrounder Suryansh Shedge has filled Pandya’s spot, seamlessly slotting into the No. 7 position for this encounter. India A comes into this one-day format with momentum, having clinched the preceding two-match red-ball series 1-0.

The line-ups for the match are as follows: India A features B Sai Sudharsan, Prabhsimran Singh as wicketkeeper, Devdutt Padikkal, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajat Patidar, Nishant Sindhu, Suryansh Shedge, Vipraj Nigam, Anukul Roy, Arshad Khan, and Yash Thakur.

Australia A fields Sam Konstas, Mitchell Owen, Josh Philippe as wicketkeeper, Nathan McSweeney, Liam Scott, Nikhil Chaudhary, captain Will Sutherland, Todd Murphy, Spencer Johnson, Riley Meredith, and Mahli Beardman.

With both teams set on achieving early supremacy in this series, it promises to be an intriguing contest for cricket fans to follow.
