The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stepped in to shuffle its coaching crew, reassigning Mohammad Ashraful from his role as batting coach for the men’s national team. In his place, Mohammad Salahuddin, who currently serves as the High Performance coach, will temporarily handle the batting responsibilities until a long-term replacement is decided.
Ashraful took on the role of batting coach back in November 2025. The BCB noted in their announcement that Ashraful will transition to a new, unspecified role within the organisation, while Salahuddin steps in to fill the gap until the position is permanently filled. Interestingly, this move is a return for Salahuddin to familiar territory, as he had overseen the batting unit prior to Ashraful’s appointment.
Reflecting on Ashraful’s contributions to Bangladeshi cricket, he was at the forefront of a landmark win against Australia in 2005, scoring a memorable century at just 20 years old. His international career, marked by a total of 177 One Day Internationals (ODIs) in which he amassed 3,468 runs, ranks him as the fifth-highest run-scorer for his nation. Ashraful’s journey also includes 61 Test matches, making history as the youngest player to score a Test century, alongside 23 T20 Internationals, and appearances in domestic cricket up until two years ago.
However, Ashraful’s career was marred by a significant setback in 2013 when he faced a ban from all BCB-related cricket following a match-fixing scandal in the Bangladesh Premier League. He was reintegrated into the cricket fold in 2016 and ventured into coaching roles thereafter.
Looking ahead, Bangladesh is gearing up for a two-Test series against the West Indies, commencing on 28th October in Mirpur. This series follows their recent setback, losing to Afghanistan in the final of the UAE ODI tri-series.
