West Indies Opt to Bat with Changes Against Bangladesh

West Indies, led by captain Roston Chase, have elected to bat first in the second Test against Bangladesh in Sylhet. Unfortunately, they find themselves without top-order batsmen John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, both sidelined by a viral fever, according to a statement from Cricket West Indies.

With this setback, Kevin Wickham has been given his Test debut. The 23-year-old Barbados native occupies the number three spot on the team sheet. Wickham has demonstrated his ability in first-class cricket with 1472 runs at an average of 40.88, including six centuries and a personal best of 153.

Joshua Da Silva makes a return to the squad after skipping the previous matches against Sri Lanka and the first Test against Bangladesh. Despite being slated to open, Da Silva has traditionally not batted higher than number five in Test matches. Amir Jangoo, however, is listed as the wicketkeeper for the West Indies.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, have also made a couple of changes. Mushfiqur Rahim and Taskin Ahmed are back in the fold, replacing the injured Mominul Haque and Shoriful Islam, respectively. Mushfiqur had earlier missed out due to a finger injury, while Mominul is absent following a knock to the head.

The West Indies lead the two-match series 1-0, following an eight-wicket triumph in Dhaka. This fixture marks their final outing in the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle. Bangladesh, meanwhile, have upcoming series against South Africa and England.

Bangladesh: Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das (wicketkeeper), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Taijul Islam, Hasan Mahmud.
