Anurag Sarangi

In the cricketing heartland of India, rising star Anurag Sarangi made his grand entrance into the cricketing world on the first day of January 2001. Born with a natural flair for the sport, Sarangi's journey began in the narrow gullies of Rourkela. As a young boy, he spent countless hours honing his craft against a backdrop of makeshift wickets and worn-out tennis balls, dreaming of one day entertaining packed stadiums.

Recognizing his prodigious talent at an early age, Anurag’s family ensured he had the support to pursue cricket seriously. Joining a local cricket academy, his coaches immediately noticed his adaptable batting technique. Anurag could seamlessly switch gears, being as comfortable anchoring the innings as he was aggressively taking on bowlers in the powerplays. It wasn't long before Sarangi's determination paid off, as he earned a spot in the Odisha U-19 team, where his performances shone brightly on the domestic scene.

Anurag made his much-anticipated professional debut for Odisha in 2019 during the Ranji Trophy. Though initially overshadowed by more experienced teammates, he quickly etched his mark, notching up a century in just his third match. His ability to read bowlers and adjust his batting accordingly became an element of surprise for many teams.

One can't discuss Anurag’s career without delving into his thrilling rivalry with Bengal’s seamers. The battles against little-known yet effective bowlers were a highlight in subsequent years, leading to some of the most memorable domestic encounters. Particularly notable was a match in the 2022 Ranji season where Sarangi crafted a gritty unbeaten 95 under testing conditions, earning him plaudits from fans and critics alike.

Beyond his batting prowess, Sarangi developed formidable bowling skills, offering his team valuable versatility. His off-spin, though seldom utilised, became an occasional match-winning weapon, particularly in limited-overs formats where his knack for breaking partnerships thrived.

Among his many achievements, leading Odisha to a historic semi-final berth in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy stands out. His leadership under pressure and ability to inspire his teammates underscore his impact on and off the field. With an insatiable appetite for runs and an ever-expanding repertoire of cricketing skills, Anurag Sarangi remains poised to etch his name further into the annals of cricket history, a testament to his unyielding dedication and love for the game.
